A message from our Squadron Commander

On December 1st 2006 the Civil Air Patrol celebrated its 65th birthday.  This anniversary is a milestone observed throughout the United States.

It is interesting to see how our organization, born from the dark shadows of the beginning of WW II, has turned out to be such a shining star in the history and for the future of our great nation.

From a core of flying enthusiast called to volunteer duty along the shores of our state and their heroic actions and sacrifices during those difficult days, to the current force of men, women, and youth; from coast to coast; from border to border, with a variety of reasons to serve but convictions that parallel our organization’s core values: Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence and Respect, the Civil Air Patrol continues to offer all citizens the opportunity to fulfill their duty to serve in the defense of our great country here at home.

Throughout the years our members have demonstrated the value of volunteer citizens ready to answer the call to serve, weather it is to assist the southern states suffering from mother nature’s wrath; flying special missions right here in our region during the September 11th attacks; flying law enforcement top security missions; performing search and rescue missions, or keeping our youth off the streets by giving them options, teaching them valuable skills and preparing them for a brighter future.

Today the call is the same, the commitment the same, the energy required the same.  Technology has surely changed and it presents a challenging future full of great opportunities, but it all comes down to the vision of a handful of men and women ready to help their fellow countrymen in times of needs, performing missions for America.

We can hold our heads up high, proud of the historical past entrusted to us by our predecessors, keeping in mind that it is up to us now to carry forth the torch; to continue to struggle Semper Viligans, testing our abilities, honing our skills, extending the limits of our knowledge preparing for the missions while at the same time praying for peace at home and abroad.

I extend my congratulations to you; the men, women, and cadet members of the General Jimmy Stewart Composite Squadron for your sacrifice, commitment and vision.  You are the heart and soul of the Civil Air Patrol. I urge you to continue to excel, spread the word to others that they may join us, and for those that have not yet done so, come with us, and see what you can do as part of the Civil Air Patrol.

 Yours in Service,

Capt. Jose D Avila Sr.,  Commander
